Meet Rachel
My name is Rachel and KelaBakes is my baby. I loved baking as a teenager to the chagrin of my mum. Why, you ask? Because I couldn’t cook. HAHA! She believed cooking was a life skill everyone should have, and she was a fantastic cook. However, her daughter had no interest in that.
I picked up baking again in university, and always got great reviews. Shout out to my manager at a previous job, Manon, who always encouraged me to take baking seriously as a business. She would order cakes and pies, and force me to accept the money. She always raved about my baked goods — my coworkers too.
Then, I decided I wanted to do this — turn my passion into a business. I started off selling just banana bread and cookies because I was so worried about ruining people’s big days by messing up their cakes. However, I have to give a special shoutout to my sister-friend Lisa who stayed up with me on Facetime for my first 3 orders, cheering me on and encouraging me, all while cradling a newborn in her arms. I am forever grateful.
